String instantons, fluxes and moduli stabilization

چکیده
We analyze a class of dual pairs of heterotic and type I models based on freely-acting Z2 × Z2 orbifolds in four dimensions. Using the adiabatic argument, it is possible to calculate nonperturbative contributions to the gauge coupling threshold corrections on the type I side by exploiting perturbative calculations on the heterotic side, without the drawbacks due to twisted moduli. The instanton effects can then be combined with closed-string fluxes to stabilize most of the moduli fields of the internal manifold, and also the dilaton, in a racetrack realization of the type I model. Moduli Stabilization in the Heterotic/IIB Discretuum
We consider supersymmetric compactifications of type IIB and weakly coupled heterotic string-theory in the presence of G resp. H-flux and various nonperturbative effects. We point out that non-perturbative effects change the Hodge structure of the allowed fluxes in type IIB significantly. In the heterotic case it is known that, in contrast to the potential read off from dimensional reduction, t...
متن کاملStabilization of moduli by fluxes
One of the major problem appearing in compactifications of string theory, is the emergence of a continuous moduli space of string vacua. In order to get contact, not only to the standard model of particle physics, but also to (inflationary) cosmology, these moduli have to be fixed and if supersymmetry is broken only at fairly low energies, we have to understand the mechanism while preserving at...
متن کاملModuli Stabilization from Fluxes
Compactifications of IIB string theory with internal NS and RR three-form flux are computationally attractive in that the lifting of moduli is via a perturbative and often explicitly calculable (super)potential. We focus on the T /Z2 orientifold, and provide an illustative N = 2 example. For other choices of flux, the resulting equations of motion can be solved to yield N = 0, 1, 2 or 3 supersy...
متن کاملModuli stabilization from magnetic fluxes in type I string theory
We show that type I string theory compactified in four dimensions in the presence of constant internal magnetic fields possesses N = 1 supersymmetric vacua, in which all Kähler class and complex structure closed string moduli are fixed. Furthermore, their values can be made arbitrarily large by a suitable tuning of the quantized magnetic fluxes. We present an explicit example for the toroidal c...
متن کاملModuli Stabilization in String Gas Cosmology LTEX2ε Version
String gas cosmology is an approach towards studying the effects of superstring theory on early universe cosmology which is based on new symmetries and new degrees of freedom of string theory. Within this context, it appears possible to stabilize the moduli which describe the size and shape of the extra spatial dimensions without the need of introducing many extra tools such as warping and flux...
